iodine Fed Advanced Cusp field Thruster for Mid-Power

The iFACT-MP project, which stands for iodine Fed Advanced Cusp field Thruster for Mid-Power, commenced in January 2024. This 24-month initiative, funded by HADEA, aims to strengthen Europe’s leading role in iodine electric propulsion (EP). Its main goal is to develop a thruster subsystem that utilizes iodine fuel within the 3-5 kW power range, while also addressing all essential components necessary for the successful implementation of an iodine EP subsystem.

On October 1st, 2024, the iFACT-MP team successfully conducted the Interim Review and Critical Design Review (CDR). The meetings were held both in person at Airbus Toulouse and online. During the sessions, we presented and reviewed the current project progress, as well as the preliminary designs of each building block. The following day, the team had the opportunity to visit the Fluidics Lab at AIRBUS DS SAS.

Following the launch of the iFACT-MP YouTube channel and the release of the first video introducing the project’s objectives and expected impact, the Dissemination & Communication (D&C) team has launched a new series titled “Ask the Researchers”. The first episode features our project coordinator, Gerrit Kottke, who outlines the role of Airbus Friedrichshafen in the project and shares insights into how iFACT-MP project aims to transform the future on Electronic Propulsion solutions while contributing to the European civil society. Plans are already underway to produce similar videos as part of the "Ask the Researchers" series, highlighting researchers from all Consortium partners and showcasing their valuable contributions.
