CONCERTO Project Advances Certification Readiness for the Next Generation of Aviation Technologies
As the aviation sector pursues ambitious goals in sustainability, competitiveness, technological sovereignty, and safety, the ability to certify innovative technologies efficiently and reliably has become a critical challenge. The CONCERTO project continues to address this challenge by developing methodologies, frameworks, and tools that support the certification of emerging aviation technologies, helping bridge the gap between innovation and market deployment.
During the past months, the project achieved several important milestones, further strengthening its role within the European aviation ecosystem.
One of the highlights was CONCERTO’s participation in the Clean Aviation Annual Forum 2026, where project coordinator Charles Blondel de Joigny presented the project’s latest achievements and contributions. The event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the project's progress and discuss the growing importance of certification readiness in advancing sustainable aviation. The Certification Readiness Level (CRL) framework developed by CONCERTO continues to attract significant interest as a practical tool for supporting the safe and efficient introduction of innovative technologies.
From a technical perspective, the project has continued to advance several proof-of-concept activities, including studies on hydrogen-powered aviation, distributed electric propulsion systems, and innovative aircraft demonstrators. These activities are contributing valuable insights into future certification frameworks while supporting the validation of the CRL methodology across different technological domains.
The project has also strengthened its engagement with the wider aviation community through scientific publications, collaboration with EASA and EUROCAE, and contributions to discussions on future certification approaches for emerging technologies. Notably, the growing interest in certification readiness concepts has further highlighted the relevance of CONCERTO's work beyond the project consortium.
Dissemination and Stakeholder Engagement
Alongside its technical progress, CONCERTO has continued expanding its dissemination activities. The project released its second newsletter, providing updates on key achievements and ongoing developments. In addition, the project website has been enriched with new dedicated sections, including content related to the CRL framework and CONCERTO's collaboration activities within the broader Clean Aviation and European research ecosystem. These additions aim to improve accessibility to project results and facilitate knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
As CONCERTO moves into its final phase, the project remains focused on delivering practical solutions that support the certification of next-generation aviation technologies. Through close collaboration between industry, research organizations, certification authorities, and standardization bodies, CONCERTO is helping create the conditions for a faster, more predictable, and more effective certification pathway for future sustainable aircraft.
