Building on Success: The Impact Monitor Academy Returns
Following the remarkable success of the first phase within Impact Monitor Project—where three talented Master’s students delivered excellent work—Impact Monitor 2 has launched the new round of the Academy in early 2026.
This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between high-level research and the education community. Selected students will have the unique opportunity to work directly with our project partners on:
- Assessing the impact of aviation technologies and operational solutions across economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
- Integrating simulation and assessment models into a unified workflow within the project’s Digital Collaborative Framework.
- Releasing the resulting workflows as open-source tools for the wider research community.
- Showcasing their work at major events and conferences.
Collection of applications has just concluded and the project is ready for review and selection of the appropriate candidates.
Detailed information is available on the Academy webpage.

Collaborative work continues with a high-impact Technical Workshop
Last January, the Impact Monitor 2 team gathered at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Castelldefels, Spain, for an important Technical Workshop. Framework developers (WP3) and study modellers (WP4) were brought together with the aim to bridge the gap between methodology and execution. The results?
- Definition and setup of 4 key study topics, addressing technological and operational innovations and their impacts at both airport and air-transport-system levels.
- Hands-on integration: From methodological refinements of collaborative multi-disciplinary workflows to real-time workflow execution.
- Deep dives into uncertainty quantification and multi-fidelity modelling to support decision-making.
- Brainstorming interactive KPI dashboards for clearer impact reporting.
The sessions were characterized by hands-on collaboration, supported by an interactive whiteboard to map complex workflows and study concepts.
