AREANA Project Announces Launch of the International JoinED Call 2025/26: A Major Step Forward for Multinational Aviation Research

The AREANA Project and the Signatories of the AREANA Synergy MoU Group have marked a significant leap forward in strengthening multinational cooperation in aviation research with the launch of the International JoinED Call 2025/26.

On 4 November 2025, the AREANA Synergy MoU Group published its first JoinED Call, reinforcing cross-border collaboration in aviation research, bringing together seven funding organisations across five countries—Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and the United Kingdom—reflecting a robust commitment to addressing common research challenges and driving innovation in the aviation sector.

The call supports funding programmes starting after 15 October 2025 and capable of delivering preliminary funding indications by 31 October 2026, with national and regional agencies applying individual deadlines and requirements.

The JoinED Call focuses on a broad spectrum of aviation-related research themes, including:

  • Alternative, climate-neutral drive technologies, open to all energy sources
  • Reduction of energy demand across aviation systems
  • Enhanced competitiveness, performance, and operational efficiency
  • Improved safety, resource efficiency, and reduction of ecological footprint

These research priorities reflect shared strategic goals across participating countries, particularly the pursuit of climate-neutral aviation and improved operational resilience.

A full overview of the International JoinED Call 2025/26, along with its guidelines, is available on the dedicated page

Applicants are advised to consult national call websites for detailed topic descriptions and proposal requirements. For countries where new calls are not yet active, available information may refer to previous cycles and should be used only for general orientation until updated guidelines are published.

The multinational call has been launched in synchrony with the Austrian Take Off Call 2025, which is now open for submissions.

With the effort to further spread the news and provide guidelines and further details about the JoinED call, an online info-event took place on November 27th, 2025, specifically aiming to support the research community in preparing competitive proposals. The session, titled “Shaping the Future of Aviation – Multinational Collaborations and Aviation Synergies,” aimed to deepen the understanding of the JoinED call and highlight opportunities for international cooperation.

During this 2-hour online session, a comprehensive overview of the JoinED Call 2025/26 structure and objectives was presented to the participants, in addition to insights into national rules and application procedures from participating funding organisations, guidance on building international research consortia, and practical advice for the proposal development process. The session ended with a moderated Q&A session with national representatives.

Further details about the info event and the agenda are available here

The session was structured to help prospective applicants better understand the scope, expectations, and structure of the JoinED Call. It will also provide clarity on national rules, application procedures, and opportunities for building cross-border research consortia.

The Info-Event thus served as an important platform for raising awareness of the newly launched call and supporting the research community in preparing strong, compliant proposals.

As the AREANA project approaches its conclusion, a final workshop was held on 3 December 2025 in Prague to lay the foundation for future growth and a “synergy implementation roadmap”, followed by the consortium’s final meeting on 4 December.
