Next-Generation Military Integrated Modular Avionics

NG-MIMA Advances Next-Generation Modular Avionics Through Technical Progress, Collaboration, and Community Engagement

Strengthening Technical Alignment Through Dedicated Workshops

The NG-MIMA (Next Generation Modular Integrated Mission Avionics) project continues to make significant strides towards transforming the future of European avionics through modularity, interoperability, safety, and innovation. Over the past months, the consortium has combined intensive technical work with strong stakeholder engagement and dissemination activities, reinforcing its role as a key initiative shaping the next generation of airborne systems.

A major focus of the reporting period was the advancement of the project's technical foundations through a series of dedicated workshops. Consortium partners worked extensively on refining High-Level Requirements (HLRs), reviewing and consolidating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and aligning methodologies across technical work packages. Significant progress was also achieved in the architectural domain. Partners agreed on a common modelling approach based on SysML v2. Further, they developed the project's modular architecture vision, promoting a structured and scalable framework capable of supporting increasingly complex avionics ecosystems.

Collaboration remained a central pillar of NG-MIMA's success. Workshops dedicated to safety-critical software and networking technologies brought together experts from across Europe to address complex challenges related to software architecture, cybersecurity, communication networks, and system integration.

The consortium also reached an important milestone with the Project Management Team meeting hosted by Saab in Linköping, Sweden. Taking place at the midpoint of the project, the meeting provided an opportunity to assess achievements, review technical progress across work packages, and align priorities for the next stages of development.

People Behind the Innovation

Alongside its technical activities, NG-MIMA has continued to strengthen its dissemination and communication efforts. Through the "From Avionics to Everyday Inspiration" series, the project has highlighted the people behind the technology, presenting the stories, expertise, and motivations of engineers and researchers contributing to the project. Recent features showcased professionals from Diehl Aviation, HENSOLDT, and other consortium partners, offering valuable insights into the multidisciplinary nature of modern avionics development and the collaborative innovation that drives technological progress.

To further engage the wider aerospace community, NG-MIMA also launched an interactive poll series on social media, encouraging discussions around key topics such as technology readiness, long-term innovation strategies, and the future impact of modular avionics on European defence and aerospace systems.

In parallel, partners continued to showcase NG-MIMA technologies through dedicated multimedia content. A recent video released by ScioTeq highlighted several technological pillars being developed within the project, including safety-critical graphics, artificial intelligence acceleration, advanced visualization solutions, and large-area cockpit display technologies.
