The LEIA Project: Advancing the Future of Hybrid-Electric Aviation

On 14 January 2026, the Clean Aviation Phase 2 project LEIA (Large scalE Integration demonstrator of hybrid Electrical Architecture) was officially launched, marking a significant milestone in Europe’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable aviation.

LEIA KICK-OFF
The LEIA Project Kick-Off Meeting – January 14, 2026, Toulouse

Coordinated by Airbus and implemented by a prestigious consortium of 25 partners, the project aims to explore disruptive electrical architectures and integrate high-voltage technologies—including energy sources, power distribution and conversion systems, and end-use applications—into a new Ground Lab Integration Test Demonstrator. The initiative targets Technology Readiness Level 5 (TRL5) by the project’s conclusion.

LEIA is expected to play a pivotal role in enabling safer, more reliable, and more efficient next-generation short- and medium-range aircraft, directly feeding into Clean Aviation’s strategic objectives in advancing green aviation technologies.

Further updates on the progress and outcomes of the LEIA project will be presented in forthcoming issues of the EASN newsletter, highlighting its transformative contribution to shaping the future of aviation.
