At EASN, we believe that the future of aviation is built on widespread, inclusive collaboration. To turn this vision into action, we are pioneering a series of targeted EASN Workshops specifically designed to weave regional research ecosystems into the fabric of modern aerospace advancement.
Central to this strategy are our National Contact Points (NCPs). By leveraging their local networks, we are directly engaging local and European —in general—innovators and experts into crucial discussions on the industry's most challenging technological frontiers.
Spotlight on Oslo: Sustainable Hydrogen & Additive Manufacturing
The momentum of this initiative was fully on display late last month. On May 28th and 29th, EASN joined forces with SINTEF to host a specialized workshop at their premier premises in Oslo, Norway.
Focused on Sustainable Hydrogen Technologies and Additive Manufacturing (AM) in Aerospace, the two-day event successfully brought together dedicated participants representing a diverse geographic footprint, including Poland, Germany, Greece, Cyprus, England, and Norway.
The workshop served as both an educational hub and a catalyst for future partnerships:
- Bridging Initiatives: Attendees were given a comprehensive introduction to EASN’s core mission and received an exclusive briefing on the ongoing AM2C3 Twinning project, showcasing real-world examples of cross-border research integration.
- Expert Knowledge Exchange: High-level presentations from industry experts set the stage for vibrant, interactive discussions.
- Tackling Tomorrow's Challenges: Participants actively mapped out new opportunities and debated the complex techno-economic challenges—and systemic consequences—of integrating hydrogen technologies into aeronautics, alongside the evolving role of additive manufacturing in aircraft components and structures.

Moving to Cyprus: Metal Additive Manufacturing - Materials, Processing and Applications
The success of the Oslo workshop proves the immense value of connecting local expertise with pan-European networks. We are building on this momentum and are already organizing the continuation, with the next event being planned with the collaboration of the National Contact Point in Cyprus.
- EASN-AM2C3 Symposium: “Metal Additive Manufacturing: Materials, Processing and Applications”
- Cyprus | 19-20 April 2027
- Co-organizers:
- EASN – European Aerospace Science Network
- AM2C3 – Additive Manufacturing and Advanced Materials Competence Centre in Cyprus, coordinated by the University of Cyprus in collaboration with IMDEA, EMPA and SINTEF
The symposium will bring together researchers, engineers, industry representatives and stakeholders working across the metal additive manufacturing value chain, with a focus on advanced materials, powder processing, laser powder bed fusion, post-processing, characterisation, qualification and high-value applications in aerospace and other demanding sectors.
By leveraging the collaboration with EASN, the event will provide a platform for scientific exchange, networking and discussion on the current challenges and future directions of metal additive manufacturing. Particular emphasis will be placed on materials development, process–microstructure–property relationships, LPBF alloys and metal matrix composites, as well as the transition of AM technologies towards reliable industrial and aerospace applications.
The symposium will also contribute to the broader mission of AM2C3 to strengthen research excellence, international collaboration and industrial engagement in additive manufacturing and advanced materials in Cyprus and across Europe.
Further details on the programme, venue and participation will be announced in due course.
Looking ahead, discussions are already underway with other National Contact Points to explore prospects for organizing further workshops in the near future, ensuring the continuous engagement of regional ecosystems in modern aerospace research.
Stay tuned as we continue to unlock the potential of regional aerospace research across Europe!
