3rd Workshop on “Towards Climate Impact Assessment Methodologies for Aviation Technology Roadmapping”
On March 11, 2025, the DLR - Institute of System Architectures in Aeronautics hosted the 3rd CLAIM Workshop on “Climate Impact Assessment Methodologies for Aviation Technology Roadmapping”. This workshop is a key milestone in an ongoing project aimed at enhancing the understanding of aviation-induced climate effects through a comprehensive literature review and stakeholder engagement.
Bringing together climate experts, aircraft technology developers, regulators, and decision-makers, the workshop focused on practical recommendations to guide the future of sustainable aviation.
Workshop Highlights:
- Fit-for-Purpose Recommendations: Developing simplified climate metrics and impact assessment methodologies to support policy and technology decision-making.
- Preliminary Analyses: Demonstrating aircraft environmental performance at the fleet level, based on technology scouting and impact assessment methodologies.
- Innovative Approaches: Presenting and surveying heuristic methodologies for aircraft technology scouting and roadmapping.
- Combined Impact Assessments: Discussing integrated evaluations of technology- and operations-driven innovations and defining the next steps.
This workshop followed the IMPACT MONITOR (Horizon Europe) Public Event on March 10, 2025, providing a unique opportunity for experts to exchange insights and advance methodologies for assessing the future aviation system.
