The HERFUSE project, short for Hybrid Electric Regional Fuselage & Empennages, is set to revolutionize the future of regional aircraft propulsion. This pioneering 3-year Clean Aviation initiative is breaking new ground in aviation technology. The journey began on January 30th, 2024, with a dynamic kick-off meeting in the vibrant city of Pomigliano d'Arco, Naples, marking the start of an ambitious mission to reshape the skies.
HERFUSE aims to design innovative fuselage and empennages for future Hybrid-Electric Regional aircraft (HER) to reduce Green House Gases (GHG) emissions. It addresses layout, materials, components, manufacturing, and assembly challenges, integrating features for hybrid-electric propulsion and complementary systems to improve weight, durability, aerodynamics, and operations.
Aligned with the visionary HERA project, HERFUSE is set to transform regional aviation by leveraging cutting-edge technologies. This ambitious project targets significant performance gains through innovative approaches, including low GHG energy sources, advanced energy storage and distribution, optimized operational features, and thermal management. By introducing these technical solutions, HERFUSE aims to drastically reduce emissions at the aircraft level, perfectly complementing HERA's bold objectives for a more sustainable future in aviation.
At the six-month mark, the Project Progress Board convened to review the ongoing work, giving the Project Coordinator a vital opportunity to align the Grand Agreement with the actual progress of activities. This meeting ensured that the project’s technical advancements were strategically sound, paving the way for continued success.
