Analysis of Skills, Training, Research and Innovation Opportunities in Space

January 2024 marks the completion of the first year of the ASTRAIOS (Analysis of Skills, Training, Research and Innovation Opportunities in Space) Horizon Europe project!

The consortium has effectively provided an exhaustive view and understanding of the currently offered space-related education in the EU-27+UK. The assessed degree programs and courses are now curated in the ASTRAIOS web catalogue, which allows users to search and retrieve collected DPs and courses. The ASTRAIOS partners have also developed the European Taxonomy of Space Knowledge (EU-TaSK), which provides a unified vocabulary and structure for collecting, analysing, and sharing space education information. Further exciting exercises were completed leveraging data from the LinkedIn Talent Insights tool to analyse the European space workforce, examining over 170,000 LinkedIn profiles from 1,800 companies. Moving forward to the future, an analysis of the future trends in the space sector to predict and anticipate the skill requirements of the field over the next decades has been completed. Simultaneously, the consortium has completed further analysis on Space Sector Soft Skills through an online workshop successfully organized on November 27, 2023, and also started a capacity building process through the Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) Peer-to-Peer learning workshop, which remarkably took place on December 11, 2023.
